MISSION
STATEMENT
Ottertail Planning Committee
Ottertail, Minnesota
Recognizing
that community planning is a continuing and dynamic process, always
subject to societal changes, the Ottertail City Planning Committee has set forth the following mission statement to clarify its’
role in the planning process.
- The
Planning Committee is a five member volunteer citizen
committee appointed by the city council and staffed by
volunteers.
- The
Committee is charged with reviewing, evaluating, and updating
the city comprehensive Land Use Plan with the objective to maintain
and/or implement the community values defined as quality of life in
both a living and working environment. The Committee must then
communicate these updates to the City Council.
- To
accomplish the annual review of the Comprehensive Plan, the Committee
encourages constructive citizen and staff participation in the public
planning process through public hearing and at regular meetings,
through newsletters, and through neighborhood planning meetings.
- The
Committee shall complete studies and recommend long-term
development plans and policies which are consistent with the
Comprehensive Plan and the values of the community which are
life-enriching, economically beneficial, and environmentally sound.
- The
Committee shall utilize (and recommend utilization by other
city public officials and entities) implementation tools such as zoning
and land use permits, subdivision approvals, official mapping, capital
improvements programming, and housing plans.
- The
Committee shall encourage quality development, utilizing life-cycle
costing, of new public and private development.
- The
Committee shall create, with the assistance of the staff, a
land use, economic, and demographic information base for use by
citizens and developers.
- Noting
that the City of Ottertail
is part of a larger community, the Committee will encourage joint
meetings and sharing of information with other commissions and
committees within the county and with adjoining and nearby Planning
Committees.
NON-PROFIT COMMUNICATION LIAISON GROUP:
Meets as
needed at City Hall
“Organized to open communications between
City Government and Organizations providing special events and community
activities in Ottertail.”

Ottertail City Council meets at the Ottertail City Offices at:
- 7 a.m. - 1st Thursday of
April through October
- The 7
a.m. meeting
of the month is especially for zoning permits and old business.
- Please
note - there are no morning meetings during the months of November
through
March
- 7 p.m. - 3rd Thursday of
Each Month
- The 7 p.m.
meeting of the
month is dedicated to new business and old business - all items will be
accepted.
